LASIK procedure uses surgery and laser to treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. In LASIK a surgeon creates a flap of tissue on the front surface of the cornea ( transparent part of the eye). Laser is used to reshape middle layer of the cornea. Once completed, flap is repositioned back and allowed to heal. LASIK candidate should be at least 18 years of age, have stable vision, no eye diseases or general health contraindications.

Photorefractive Keratectomy ( PRK ) is another refractive procedure during which doctor uses Excimer laser to remove a thin layer of tissue from the center of the cornea. Laser produces uniform, concentrated beam of high energy. Energy from laser is converted into chemical energy that evaporates corneal molecules in very precise amounts. PRK is indicated for small and moderate myopia( nearsightedness) and astigmatism. Patients undergoing PRK should be 18 years or older, have stable prescription and no eye or general health contraindications.

Cataract Refractive surgery

Cataract is clouding of the natural lens inside the eye. When cataract creates noticeable visual discomfort and starts interfering with activities of daily living it becomes clinically significant and needs to be surgically removed. During surgery intraocular implant is inserted to replace natural lens. Traditionally, surgeons used monofocal intraocular implant. This type of replacement lens restores only distance vision. Today, if you have cataract, you have an option of insertion of multifocal lens that provides clear vision in full range of distances. FDA clinical trials showed that with multifocal intraocular lens 80 % of patients never needed distance or reading glasses, compared to only 8% of patients with monofocal lens.
